TMT Awarded Key Roles by Phoenix International (Australia) In Submarine Rescue Service Contract
Phoenix International (Australia) has awarded key roles to Total Marine Technology Pty Ltd (TMT) in the Submarine Rescue Service (SRS) contract for The Royal Australian Navy. The Submarine Rescue Service contract will be delivered on a four-year acquisition schedule; while Phoenix International (Australia) will be the prime for the overall project, TMT is the ROV supplier for the contract and will work with the consortium to deliver the SRS.
Total Marine Technology has been selected to design and fabricate a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). Further involvement by TMT in the contract is to design and supply the external propulsion and electrical systems for the Remotely Operated Rescue Vehicle as well as the Submarine Rescue Bell. Minister for Defence, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, announced that the Department of Defence has awarded Phoenix International (Australia) Pty Ltd the Submarine Rescue Service Contract.
The project is expected to create over 55 jobs, with the acquisition phase of the system valued at $255 million with Australian Industry Content at approximately 80 per cent. “I congratulate Phoenix International (Australia) on their lead role in delivering the new submarine rescue system along with a range of small and medium Australian companies supporting the system design, manufacture, testing and in-service operation of the capability,” Minister Pyne said. CEO of TMT, Paul Colley, said, “This is a great example of Australian ingenuity to further enhance Sovereign capability while increasing Australian jobs in the technology sector.
The project comprises several well-established entities working together to provide a world class, bespoke system to the Royal Australian Navy. TMT is keen to apply its knowledge and capability in Defence, gained from 20 years in the Oil and Gas sector. We are privileged and excited to be working on a project of this importance and magnitude.” The rescue system will be accepted into operational service in 2022 and will be just one of four air transportable systems in the world.
The ‘primary mission’ of the system is to deliver rescue capabilities to the Royal Australian Navy’s submarine fleet; the system will also be capable of supporting other submarine operating nations by means of the NATO standard escape hatch. The work will be carried out in TMT’s Bibra Lake facilities, located just South of Perth. Total Marine Technology is proud to be a key subcontractor during the acquisition phases of this project. Furthermore, TMT wish to congratulate Phoenix International on the award of the SEA1354 contract.
