Technical Author/Writer

The need: 

 
Total Marine Technology, as an Approved Subcontractor, is part of the team designing and building the next generation of Submarine Rescue Service for the Commonwealth of Australia supporting the Royal Australian Navy.  
Therefore, we are currently seeking an experienced Technical Author/Writer. 
The position is offered on a full-time, permanent or 12-month fixed term basis to the right candidate with minimum PR visa who are also eligible for Australian citizenship. 
 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Working with engineers to develop (by using controlled language) equipment specifications, work instructions, operating and maintenance manuals for remotely operated vehicles and intervention tooling and other machines the company develops 
  • Completing product flyers and other publishing material and content 
  • Developing training material based on manuals and operating procedures 
  • Reviewing published material and recommending revision or changes to the scope, format, content or methods of production 
  • Management of all promotional material 
  • Researching, writing and publishing corporate communications on a regular basis 
  • Ensuring all communications are of the highest standard of grammar and spelling and consistent with the company’s brand strategy and style guides 
 

What you will bring: 

  • Proven record (5 years minimum) of experience as a Technical Author/Writer 
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field 
  • Experience in a technical subject, such as electrical/mechanical trade, or engineering 
  • Exposure to the engineering environment 
  • Working knowledge of CAD systems; preferably SolidWorks 
  • Experience with putting e-learning training packages together based on manuals and specification sheets 
  • Advanced computer skills and literacy with respect to MS Office and Adobe products 
  • Knowledge of technical writing principles and ability to work with document templates 
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills in English 
  • High attention to detail 
  • Experienced user of controlled language such as ASD-STE100 
  • Perseverant and conscientious mind 
  • Candidates also with defence/navy and technical trainer experience are highly encouraged to apply
